Cloud, Big Data Among Gartner Top 10 Strategic Technologies for 2012:
Analyst Gartner has highlighted the 10 technologies that it thinks will impact enterprises most in 2012 and shape their next three years. Four of the most important are Big Data, cloud computing, enterprise app stores and the Internet of Things. To cope with Big Data, enterprises will require new or exotic technologies simply to manage the volume, the analyst warned. U.S. Information Workers Increasingly Out of Office, says Forrester:
According to a Forrester study of nearly 5,000 U.S. information workers, nearly half of them spend a significant part of their working life out of the office - either at home or at other remote locations. In-Stat says China Leading in Smart Meter Deployment for Modern Grid:
A new report from analyst In-Stat says that China is driving smart meter deployment with 280 million units in place by 2016. This is all part of the worldwide modernization of the electrical grid, which is up to 100 years old. A "smart grid" would help the deployment of new power stations, make the delivery of electricity more efficient and allow consumers to reduce bills. "The smart meter is at the heart of the smart grid transformation, and even though infrastructure and customer education are also important, in these early days it's all about the smart meter," says Allen Nogee, Research Director, In-Stat. After powerline, which is the leading technology for smart meters, the alternatives are: cellular, whitespace and proprietary mesh networks using unlicensed spectrum. Click here to read more.
